History of the Convent of Mary Immaculate in Matara 1908.

The Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary came to Galle Sri Lanka in 1896 for more than 11 years, there was only one house of the SCJM in Galle.  The second foundation was proposed from 1906 especially by M. Tiburce De Mol Superior of Galle.  In collaboration with the Jesuits the sisters, started the work, and by 1908, they finished the convent and the school.  on 15th April 1908 Sr. Josephine Halewijn and Sr. Livine Van Brabant left for Matara with four orphans in order to make last minutes arrangements.  Fr. The Universal Teachers’ Day was held in Senior and primary schools. Rev. Fr. Nihal Nanayakkara was the chief Guest at Senior school and Rev. Fr. Charles Hewawasm At Primary school. The students showed their respect to the teachers with dances, dramas and speeches.

Children’s Day 2009

Children’s Day 2009 was celebrated on 2nd October. Mr. Karunaratne Wijewardena was the Chief Guest.The teachers entertained the students with songs and dances. Mr. Karunaratne spoke on value of parents and teachers. Each child was given a gift from the school.
